It appears that your favorite rap mogul Jay Z is suing his ex employee for $1.5 million over a secret chicken wing recipe. Rap legend Jay Z owns one of the hottest Sports clubs in the country. The 40/40 Club, located in the Barclays district of New York City the Sports Bar offers patrons free admission, $2,500 exclusive gold memberships, exclusive only bottle service items like $1,100 bottles of Perrier Jouet Rose, $500 gold Bottles of Ace of Spades champagne and sweet exotic drinks priced at $13, like The Envy Me blends Kahlúa with crème de cacao and ice cream and the Berry Sexy that has blueberry vodka, strawberry liqueur and Sprite.

Of course with all of those sweet delights guests are more than likely to work up an appetite while they watch their favorite sport or chill to the sounds of Rihanna blaring through the speakers.. To help revamp the menu at the all new, luxurious 40/40 club Jay Z hired his former personal chef, Mike Shand to create a new menu for the clubs new $10 million dollar atmosphere opening back In January.
Apparently the chef’s menu which featured 40/40 Wings was not cohesive with the ambiance of the new caramel brown and gold reflective surfaces of the entertainers Manhattan hot spot.
According to Jay-Z and partner Juan Perez, since then, Shand has bailed on his promise to elevate the menu and “failed to perform on significant aspects.”
The sub-par food at the “urban chic” sports bar apparently scared away good patrons, “costing the club lost profits, loss of good will [and] alienation of clientele.” (meaning only urban people were visiting)
With financial giants like Warren Buffet showing up to the grand opening, menu items like the $16 40/40 nachos that comes with chicken or beer failed to cater to an upscale crowd. YET, Jay Z is upset that the chef won’t hand over his secret chicken recipe.
According to Page Six it’s all about the sauce. “One source tells us that chef Mike Shand left “taking the recipes to popular menu items such as chicken wings, forcing the club to sue.” But we’re told Shand happily handed over all his recipes — except his spice mix.
Shand’s lawyer Vik Pawar told us, “The spice-mix recipe that Mike developed is his own recipe. 40/40 terminated him, then had the audacity to sue him for his recipes. He gave them all apart from this spice mix because it is his own. Mike had a wonderful relationship with Jay-Z and Beyonce for many years.”
Really Jay???? Black people and their chicken… But we want to get mad about the stereotypes…
UPDATED: The lawsuit has been dropped.
More photos inside the new 40/40 Club, which looks exactly like the one he had in Vegas at the Palazzo hotel, minus the slot machines.. The hotel ended up buying Jay Z out because they didn’t like all the “urban” traffic it was attracting.. Although the club was absolutely magnificent in every way, it mostly seemed to attract the “ghetto crowd.”
