Gabby Douglas‘ historic Olympic performance has turned her into America’s new golden girl. The title rightfully came with cereal boxes painted in her honor, a meeting with Oprah Winfrey and becoming greatly admired by the First Lady Michelle Obama. Gabrielle Douglas has a arrived at a status most teens can only think about. All it took was a few high jumps into history books. At sixteen years of age she has become a household name. This landed her the cover of Essence Magazine.
While some were cringing at Gabby’s laid back ponytail she popped with an all new millionaire hair-do courtesy of hair stylist Ted Gibson. He gave the Olympian a complete make over for her shoot with ESSENCE Magazine. Gabby Douglas, 16, was photographed in New York last week looking regal and polished.
Gabby along with several of her family members, including her mother, visited the mag’s office for a shoot focused on the gold medalist’s newfound stardom. For one of the shots Douglas donned a J. Mendel dress and Jimmy Choo heels and wore a designer peplum frock in another.
Her hairstylist couldn’t stop gushing over the teen. “I have the most incredible opportunity to work with someone fabulous, yes that’s Gabby Douglas,” said Ted Gibson. “Doing her hair was one of the highlights of my career because today was about making her feel the most comfortable in front of the camera.”
Gabby was also excited while viewing the playback photos of her shoot. “ESSENCE has been so welcoming,” said Gabby during the shoot. “I just wanna thank you all for having me and I love you so much.”
Douglas’ spread will be featured in ESSENCE‘s November issue.
