From hair texture and if it’s better to be permed or natural to skin complexion.. There is always a debate going on within the black race.   Most recently Beyonce and Jay Z have  been drawn into a race debate over Blue Ivy’s features after images of the baby were leaked last week.

Speculation over whether the newest child of hip hop would look like either Jay Z or Beyonce was speculated for months before BLue Ivy was even born..  Humorous photos combining Jay & Bey’s features were created in likeness of their unborn child..

Of course Jay’s features were amplified.

“hopefully she gets most of her looks from her mother’s side.”

“i just hope beyonce genetics dont get over powered by camel genes.”

“thats gonna be one ugly nigga baby with big ass lips and a dirty ass weave.”

But low and behold when blue was born she was an absolutely beautiful baby with Beyonce’s features..

“WoW, Blue Ivy is absolutely beautiful. Thank God she ditched her daddy’s genes.”

“I had no idea that that ‘adorable’ and ‘Jay Z’s nose, eyes and lips’ could have been used in the same sentence. I wish them the best of luck though!! <3 <3”

Four months later after Jay and B released the first photos of their new baby girl onto a tumblr page new photos of the infant leaked and the photos were met with what some would perceive as a negative response to the baby now taking mostly after Jay Z.

Beyoncé really screwed up, having a baby by Jay-Z. His nose and lips are never going to look right on a girl.

Let’s pray Beyoncé’s genes kick in as B.I.C. gets older. All the money and talent in the world won’t take away from having Jay-Z’s features.

Nappy-headed kid. Wish Beyoncé had married a nice-looking man instead of Jay-Z.

The blogospshere was bombarded with comments pertaining to Blue’s features. The questions now is, Is Blue Ivy now ugly because she looks like Jay Z?

The highly offensive comments prompted Essence magazine writer Demetria Lucas to criticize the ideals of beauty in the black community: “Let’s admit it: A lot of us are bamboozled, led astray, and just plain brainwashed when it comes to what traits we find attractive on Black people,” she wrote.

I read all the comments and first think about myself and my opinion..  When I say someone is beautiful more than likely 9 out of 10 people will agree with me on it.  My description of beauty is extreme beauty.  Some of my ideals on beauty may be comprised of what I personally see when I look in the mirror.  So you have to think that other people’s ideas of beauty may consist of what they also see when they look in the mirror and of what they are visually attracted to.

This is the center of the debate because when it comes to black people we come in so many different shades, sizes and variants.

Now before Blue was born you did not hear many people claim that Jay  Z was the most attractive.  His big lips and wide nose was always spoken of in a negative connotation.  But having big lips and a broad nose doesn’t necessarily make someone not attractive. It’s their facial symmetry or lack of symmetry in general that makes them unattractive or attractive. Failure to  find  Jay Z’s features attractive certainly does not  mean that you have issues with your race. No more than someone has issues with their race if they find Halle Berry attractive or Beyonce..

The biggest problem with blacks these days is that people who inherit predominately black features wants everyone else to hold onto the notion that those features are the epitome of being black and subjective to having to be considered beautiful. Blacks have been intermixed for hundreds of years and there is no longer a set standard for what black beauty is in America.  It’s just time to give it up and stop ttrying to push your ideals onto everyone else as the set standard.

I disagree with the assertion that not finding Blue attractive is self-hatred. That would mean that person didn’t find any person with big lips and a big nose attractive. We all know there are plenty of black people with predominately black features who are considered beautiful.

Personally when I saw Blue’s most recent pictures I did not look at it and think “Oh, she’s beautiful”.  But the majority of my readers  did say that the baby was still beautiful.  Those people also had Blue’s current features and some would say the baby was beautiful even if she looked like a werewolf.

The black race has genetically evolved . If everyone thought and saw things the exact same way the world would be a beautiful place.  What makes the world beautiful to me is that we are free to see it however we want to. Words about someone’s appearance is nothing but a description.. A description that’s based upon the ideals of the persons eyes who is viewing  the image.  How can you possibly expect for everyone to look at something and give the exact same description? You can’t..  People even see colors differently.. One person’s hue of the shade blue may be seen differently from the next.. Although everyone else assumes that other people see the exact same  shade of blue as they do.

So I ask again, if people don’t find Jay Z attractive why would they find a girl that looks like him attractive?
