Beiliu, CHINA - A 95-year-old Chinese woman  who was thought  to be dead has terrified her neighbors after waking up just  six days after she had been placed in her coffin..

Two weeks after Li Xiufeng tripped and hit her head a concerned neighbor, Chen Qingwang, 60 stopped by to check on her and found Li motionless and not breathing.  After being unable to wake Li she was presumed dead although her body was warm to the touch.

According to local Chinese tradition a body is to be parked in the house for several days before the funeral..   

On February 19, just two days after her death Xiufeng was was placed in a coffin which was kept in her house unsealed under Chinese tradition for friends and relatives to pay respects.

As Mrs Xiufeng lived alone, Mr Qingwang and his son made preparations for her funeral, and the ‘dead’ woman was left in her coffin two days after she was discovered.

The day before she was due to be permanently laid to rest, however, Mr Qingwang arrived at his neighbour’s property and found her ‘corpse’ had disappeared.

Li reportedly told villagers: ‘I slept for a long time. After waking up, I felt so hungry, and wanted to cook something to eat.

‘I pushed the lid for a long time to climb out.’

Medics said Mrs Xiufeng had suffered an ‘artificial death’, when a person has no breath, but their body remains warm.

Despite cheating death and not being buried alive thanks to  Chinese tradition that very same tradition left Mrs Xiufeng without any possessions, according to ritual, after a person dies, all their belongings must be burnt.

I guess they only embalm people in the US.. Speaking of someone told me that if you put a drop of embalming fluid in your finger nail polish that it will make your nails grow really long..
