Something good came out of the Aurora Theater Dark Knight shooting. A hero was in the crowd that night.
A Colorado teen turned into a real-life superhero Friday night after a gunman opened fire in a packed movie theater.
Jarell Brooks, 19, was prepared to flee the Aurora theater when a shooter started attacking cinemagoers excited to see the midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises,” ABC News reports. When Brooks saw Patricia Legarreta struggling to save her babies, he immediately stopped in his tracks.
“She yelled, ‘My kids!,’” Brooks told the news outlet of the horrifying moment he realized Legarreta and her two young daughters were in danger. “I made sure they got in the aisle and pushed behind her to make sure she got out of there.”
Brooks braved against the heavily-armed shooter, suspected to be James Holmes — a 24-year-old University of Colorado-Denver PhD student, the Associated Press reports. A total of 12 people were killed, and nearly 60 were injured, in what is the worst mass U.S. shooting to date since the attack at Fort Hood, Texas in November 2009.
Though Brooks eventually brought the young family to safety, they didn’t all escape harm. Both the 19-year-old and Legarreta were shot and are recovering at home, a fate that is nothing short of a miracle for the mother of two.
“Everybody at that moment was going through it,” Legarreta told the ABC News, “and to know that someone had that mindset, it makes me feel happy to know that in times of trial, there are good people out there.”
That’s brave. An normal person would have shot out of there.. The government should have a donation fund for heros.

Now, the part of the story that I originally missed was that this lady was at the theatre with her boyfriend who left her and the kids when the shooting started. He then proposed to her at the hospital. And she said YES.

Why would she marry a man that’s not going to protect her. He’s not even willing to lay his life down for the sake of his kids.. But I guess it’s better to be with him than be a single parent.. She’d be better off marrying Jarell.

I do understand human instinct is all about self preservation. But as a woman you want a man that's willing to protect you and your kids and be able to provide for you. This shows what happens when you pick a man that's not willing to do those things.. You may as well just date a woman and use a dildo.
That one guy shielded his gf nd was killed i can't remember his name but he was the one wearing shades in the pics they showed of the victims
I wouldn't be mad at him. But, we would definitely have to part ways as far as a relationship goes.
But this girls bf deserves no glory a stranger had more respect for her family
Fight or flight different in people. I have nothing but respect for people who put themselves in harms way for others.
OMG! ROTFLMAO! I can't . . .
I heard about a situation like this happening (boyfriend leaving girlfriend and children) that night but didn’t know if it was true or if the woman ended up getting away. Her boyfriend should be ashamed of himself.
I WOULD REALLY LOVE TO KNOW HOW OTHER MEN FEEL THEY WOULD RESPOND IN THIS SITUATION.
GUYS, how would you respond in this situation? LADIES, would you be upset if you were in this woman's shoes?
Yes I would, especially after learning about the man who died while protecting his girlfriend .
I don't know if I can rock with what dude did by leaving both his Kids in the theater. He got out but his woman and 2 kids, to his knowledge, didn't? He only prayed that they would be OK? Wow!
On the other hand… Hats Off to the young brother that led with his instincts and not his fear. He took a bullet for someone he didn't even know! Simply because he saw a need. I know he was probably scared to death, but what Hero's aren't?
As far as her accepting the proposal from her dude that ran and left them behind… She won't go through with the marriage. No way! I would like to hear about them again later down the line when the shock and stress of the incident dies down. I'll bet she won't marry him.
sooo many broken souls
