Today was the big day for reality star Evelyn Lozada. Well known for her stint on VH1′s Basketball Wives, but on Wednesday, she officially became a football wife after exchanging happily ever after vows with NFL star Chad Ochocinco Johnson.
Getting past battling rumors of infidelity and Chad’s close relationships with his many female friends, the couple tied the knot in an evening ceremony on a secret exotic island on July 4, 2012. Lozada, 36, and the Miami Dolphins wide receiver, 34, said their vows as family, friends and VH1 reality show cameras looked on.
Holding their ceremony on the Independence Day was a clever decision on Ochocinco’s part, as the football star told his Twitter followers he chose the date “so I’d never forget our damn anniversary.”
Evelyn shared her excitement about getting married in a late-night tweet yesterday. “Goodnight tweeps!! Tomorrow I become a ‘Johnson’ #goodnight” Lozada wrote. And while that was the last fans heard from Evelyn, Chad was upset about not being welcome on the premises.
“Hey security won’t let me on the compound or premises… f*ck tradition… open these gates before I swim off this damn island,” he tweeted just a few hours ago. It sounds like this couple will create quite the humorous show about their wedding. Of course, everything taking place now is being filmed for Ev & Ocho, their wedding spin-off from Basketball Wives that focuses solely on their nuptials and planning. Jennifer Williams was not a part of the wedding in any way, not even a guest.
The couple’s nuptials were filmed for their VH1 show, Ev and Ocho, debuting in September. The football star also live tweeted portions of his big day, allowing his 3.5 million Twitter followers to gain access to his pre-ceremony planning.
“How many times is Eve gonna change outfits… Is this normal to have more than 1 outfit besides the wedding gown?” he jokingly tweeted late Wednesday after tying the knot.
Once the ceremony wrapped, Ochocinco updated his profile picture to show off an image of his and Lozada’s wedding rings.
“Before we met, we communicated over the phone for a month. We got to know each other like that before seeing each other,” she said. “We have a true friendship. And he can keep up with my mouth! I’m very verbal, and say what I think and feel. He’s the same way. He makes me laugh.”
Jennifer Williams was not invited to witness the nuptials however Chad did invite one of his grieving fans after she tweeted him about the recent lose of her husband.
Teamwork makes the dreamwork. Congrats to Mr and Mrs. Johnson.
