This pair of sneakers pictured above are the new Adidas ‘Roundhouse Mid ‘Handcuffs’ by Jeremy Scott..   Tagged as “shackle sneakers” African American’s feel like they have been slapped in the face as the shoes reflect  the history of slavery and oppression in America..

All in all the colorful purple and orange shoes with the plastic orange ankle chains have been deemed racist by the black community.

Retailing at $350, designer Jeremy Scott says his shoes are not a mockery of slavery and that the shoes were actually inspired by a 1986 toy “My Pet Monster”.

Sportswear giant Adidas has apologized for “promoting slavery” with their ‘shackle’ sneakers.

Defending the shoe’s designer, Jeremy Scott, as having a “quirky” and “lighthearted” style, Adidas said Monday that it planned to cancel the shoe’s release.

“The design of the JS Roundhouse Mid is nothing more than the designer Jeremy Scott’s outrageous and unique take on fashion and has nothing to do with slavery,” the statement said. “We apologize if people are offended by the design and we are withdrawing our plans to make them available in the marketplace.”

When I first saw the shoes slavery didn’t jump into my head immediately.. So I asked my facebook and Twitter following what was the first thing that popped into their mind upon sight of the shoes..

The first twitter response was completely hilarious

When I see these I think jail. Like they think all black males are destined for, or have been to jail. Not. Cool.
