Rewind back to 2002, when the coldest beef in Hip –Hop was happening. Some may believe that Tupac and Biggie had the coldest beef, which resulted in the early demise of the two Icons . Remember Biggie never responded to Tupac, it was really a one way street.
In 2002 the once close friends Nas and Jay Z were at each others throats, on wax that is. So many different stories surfaced as to how the initial attacks between the two transpired. The beef became an all out public war when Jay Z dropped the “Take Over” were he dissed Nas’ lyrics and grind ethics:
I’ve been in it five – smarten up Nas Four albums in ten years nigga? I can divide That’s one every let’s say two, two of them shits was due. One was – NAHHH, the other was “Illmatic”That’s a one hot album every ten year average and that’s so – LAAAAAAAME! Nigga switch up your flow Your sh*t is garbage, but you try and kick knowledge. (legendary diss line)
Nas admitted on his VH-1, Behind The Music that he wasn’t going to respond to Jay Z’s “Take Over” diss track until his brother convinced him to.
So Nas came back with “Ether” which included lyrics like:
No jail bars Jigga, no pies, no case Just Hawaiian shirts, hanging with little Chase You a fan, a phony, a fake, a pussy, a Stan I still whip your ass, you thirty-six in a karate class. (That is still funny.)
Oh Wow, with lyrics like those you would think the two would never speak again but with Gods grace no one was hurt. Nas was said to have won the battle with “Ether” and Jay Z went on to cement himself as the biggest rapper in the game.
In 2005 Nas and Jay-Z took center stage at Power 105.1′s Power House concert in New Jersey. Their beef would be squashed in front of thousands of surprised hip hop fans that day. The two have remained close friends ever since.

But Earlier this month, a video titled “Nas Hanging Jay-Z” popped up on YouTube, giving a behind-the-scenes look at a stunt Nas had planned for Hot 97′s 2002 Summer Jam concert. Nas decided to pulled out of the all-star hip-hop concert, unable to go through with the performance. Nas recently sit down with MTV , when asked about the video Nas quoted
“I really don’t even want to acknowledge it,” Nas told MTV News on Tuesday. “Everybody’s in a different place. I don’t even want to acknowledge it. I can’t acknowledge that. Jay’s my man, and that’s that, that’s all I’m gonna say.”
