Lady Gaga may hold the record for the most Twitter followers in the world. But Indonesia doesn’t care how loved Lady Gaga is. They still do not want the singer in their country because she’s too risque.

The national police denied Gaga a permit on Tuesday for a concert that was to have been held in early June after Islamic hard-liners mounted protests, complaining that her sexy clothes and suggestive dance moves will corrupt the youth, The Associated Press and Reuters reported.

Boy Rafli Amar, a spokesman for the national police, told The Associated Press that the permit for the June 3 “Born This Way Ball” had been denied because the police in Jakarta could not guarantee the safety of the crowd. Some of the militant groups had threatened to use physical force to stop the show.

“She’s a vulgar singer who wears only panties and a bra when she sings and she stated she is the envoy of the devil’s child and that she will spread Satanic teaching,” said Salim Alatas, who leads the Islamic Defenders Front, a hard-line group in Jarkarta.  “This is dangerous.”

The show had been expected to be the biggest extravaganza on Lady Gaga’s Asian tour, and fans bought every available ticket in Jakarta’s 52,000-seat Gelora Bung Karno stadium, with half of them selling in the first two hours.  It was not clear if their money would be refunded.

The tour started in late April and several stops have been sold out.  Promoters said only people older than 18 could attend her concerts in South Korea after conservatives there raised objections to her show.

Indonesia, the world’s fourth most populous nation with more than 245 million people, has a secular government but is home to the world’s largest population of Muslims, along with significant minorities of Christians, Buddhists and Hindus.
