OVERT RACISM: Sweden Minister of Culture Mutilates Sara Baartman Black Face Cake

The shocking images above are  making the rounds on the net right now..  The images display a stunning example of Anti-Black Racism in Sweden. On my initial reaction I was a bit naive and thought to myself that people have to be reading this wrong and that this could not be what I think it is.  But it is what it is.

The cake is of Sara Baartman laid nude in black face with a bloody inside.. I was thinking people could not possibly be this racist? Apparently they are in Sweden, they feed Sara cake and everything..   Now many of you are unfamiliar with who Sara Bartman is.  I’ll explain in a bit.

This cake was presented at the Modern Museum in celebration of World Art Day and 75th anniversary of the KRO. The event schedule read:

“3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  April 15: “Freedom of Artistic Expression and Dialogue with Society”
A conversation in English about the fight against censorship and artistic freedom. “

So they labled this satrical display as artistical freedom?? WTF.  I can take a good joke but this is completely not funny at all. I find this cake utterly repulsive and had I walked in YES, I would have slapped the dog sh@t out of the person with the knife in hand feeding Sara cake of her own body.. The crowd stands there laughing..

Is this really what the world thinks of African Americans? How is it that people hate us and we are the ones bred from ancestors who were snatched from their land, turned into slaves, treated inhumane and forced to build this country?

So appalled..  If that’s not bad enough one of the themes of the party was also female genital mutilation.. The Sara blackface cake was cut starting with her clitoris.  This cake of a black woman  who was humiliated and whose body was turned into a sideshow circus while alive was  being cut into by a white audience.  And the person pictured cutting into the cake with a huge smile is their Culture Minister - Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth who is supposed to be responsible for culture policy in the Sweden government.

And this was all in celebration of WORLD ART DAY.. Ain’t that about a Bish!

I wouldn't give a shit……it's the fact they can use their hate for us towards us manifested in the law, the media and every aspect of a Black persons life. They don't have to like me but they MUST respect me.

because European culture found out in the early 1800's we are the only race they could not mix with and eventually turn white in fact matting with people of African descent could eventually wipe out their race. that's why the French created a "Black/ African" French army and put them on German soil as a war on race tactic (numbers) to whipe out there race;l and there began the first "Black Germans " which Hitler had captured and castrated some killed. it was also a reason that truly sparked the idea of end of slavery because raping us really increased our race not theirs.. European culture is to conquer, that is why their are still today so many unjust actions in the judicial system putting a cap on success through wrongly charged and incriminated minorities. and Numbers is also the reason why we check black, white, Indian or other. really how many of us Black white Indian or other are really just of one race? Every Race Has A racist but Everyone of any Race is not a racist. we can only hope that those that are not a racist can come together for the abolishing of racism entirely

This is truly messed up, I can't believe the deep levels of racism. I've recently asked the same question Kissy as to why we are hated so much. 400 years of slavery, segregation, Jim crow, lynchings and the lists goes on and on. WHY ARE WE HATED SO MUCH?????

I think the cake was in poor taste, but it is obvious that neither Miss Kissy nor the people commenting took the time to find out what it was all about. The artist (who's head shows above the torso) is Makode Aj Linde, with roots in Africa. He wanted to get a discussion going with regards to racism. I am no fan of the minister, but I believe that she was ambushed and tried to make the best of the situation. Either she could play along, or she could refuse to take part and be accused of not showing the proper respect for the artist and the art work. She probably tried to avoid similar criticism to when she described graffiti as vandalism.

excuse me .. but she was in black face with a clown like smile wide as all out doors.. even a man of good humor would have done the right thing and said this is wrong.. she had the woman's virgina on a plate feeding it to him for crying out loud. and considering they saved the genitalia replica for the Minister …( because the picture shows there were more parts cut before the Virgina). not only did she have time to say no but I'm inclined to believe she had no remorse.
It doesn't matter where the Artist is from.. There was segregation in Africa due to white supremacy, remember.

@PaulDavid L. Campbell: According to a number of interviews the artist's intention was to put the finger on racism, and I think he chose the perfect venue. The room was filled with the "cultural elite", predominantly middle to upper class women, who probably wet themselves when they saw the cake. What to do? Object and risk getting labeled as someone who doesn't appreciate modern, provocative art, or oblige the artist and take a piece while smiling to let him know that you understand what it is all about? Over here a rock, over there a hard place.

I did not attend the performance and I don't know the minister personally, so I can't say for sure what (if anything) went through her head before cutting a piece of the cake. It's possible that she is racist and has no remorse, but it is just as likely that she is just an idiot that had a difficult choice to make and perhaps made the wrong one.

Either way it is sad to see the huge number of knee-jerk comments from people that couldn't be bothered to find out the context before getting upset. I think it is a good thing this artist has done if we can get a discussion going regarding racism, but that does not necessarily make him (or the minister) racist.

Björn Mattsson -all in all-we still have a choice to do the right thing, and the minister chose not to. Plain and simple….I would have rather dealt with getting labled as someone who doesn't appreciate modern art than an inconsiderate racist……it's like someone standing in front of you drops a $50.00 dollar bill….you can either step on it to cover it and act like you didn't see it, so when they leave you pick it up and take it….OR GIVE THE DAMN MONEY BACK TO THE PERSON WHO DROPPED IT…..cmon

Björn Mattsson that kind of thinking is what led to the on going act of slavery, prejudice even among eurpeans cultures alone and the biggest problems USA surffers with the over all objective of republicans.. Majority Rules.
but we have found the harboring of cowards small voice and right answeres to set the captive free only perpetuated the wrong the majority caused and the independent voice to do the right thing rang and relief was granted even to the cowards .. example .. Freedom rang

Just remember they're prejudice acts in every race but, every one is not a racist. How do we bring an end to racism?.. With Love. We can first start by smiling and sincerely greeting one another in passing continually. Even if it is not returned.

“Woosa!!! I feel where Spike is coming from, but in his position he should know better..” ~ Miss Kissy

Your response to Spike lee “tweeting” the wrong address of George Zimmerman putting an innocent couple in harms way.

“After listening to George Zimmerman’s 911 tape, he definitely mumbled “f*cking Coons* under his breathe. ~ Miss Kissy

Funny I heard him say “Punks” – audio analysis and even testimony of the prosecutor in Zimmerman’s case say he says “Punks”

I was looking for your article and outrage over The New Black Panther Party, a quote from their Philadelphia leader – “you gonna have to kill some crackers, you gonna have to kill some of they babies”

I’d like to see your in-depth article regarding that?

Avoiding racism doesn’t abolish it.

Maybe you should do some more research into the story and the artist who made the cake. Makode Aj Linde

How in the HELL can you call the Minister Racist when it was a “FU***NG BLACK ARTIST” who initiated the stunt???

It was HIM(the artist) wearing the Black face makeup.

And it was a stunt to bring attention to female genitalia mutilation.

The crowd was reacting to the artists mock screaming as the Minister cut into the cake.

In the end the ignorant ones are those who didn’t take the steps to fully research what actually was happening.

—————–
I’ll do some of the research for you, below is an interview with the artist after the event:

Makode: It’s sad if people feel offended, but considering the low number of artists in Sweden who identify as Afro-swedish I find it sad that the Afro-Swedish Association haven’t followed my artistry and do not understand what my work is about.

What did the minister of culture say to you when she was there? Was she hesitant about eating of the cake?

Makode: I didn’t clearly see her reaction, but judging from the pictures she was surprised when she realised that the cake was living. And before she put the knife into me, into the cake, she said “Your life will be better like this”. And when she put the knife into me I started screaming and begged her to stop. This was a part of the performance.

But what was the thought behind you being a living head?

Makode: I wanted to somehow make the cake more human, not just a silent object. More interactive, simply.
——————-

Go beyond what you see, a picture may be worth a thousand words, but make sure they are accurate and truthful ones.
