Detroit, Michigan - A 14-year-old boy did not like the rules of his house. Especially the one that said he could not join a gang.  To remedy the problem Joshua Smith shot his mom 10 times as she slept on the couch.

Joshua  allegedly unleashed a hail of bullets on his mother Tamiko Robinson, 36, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Smith, who was on the swimming team at Kettering High School, was said to be angry that his mother had tried to keep him off the streets and away from a gang. He was 14 years old, 6’1″ and hanging with 20-21 year old men. 

Smith’s uncle LeShaun Roberts, told Fox Detroit News the teen had wanted to ‘hang with the big boys’ – gang members in their twenties – but when his mother said no he ran away to relatives.

But Robinson, a dialysis patient, who was battling lupus but still tried to be a good parent and stay active in her kids life despite her low energy went after her son and insisted he come back home and stay out of trouble.  A motherly decision that would cost Tamiko her life.  It completely angered the 14-year-old boy.

Shortly after midnight with murder on his mind, Joshua broke into his stepfathers room to steal his gun. He crept up on his mom as she lay sleeping on the couch.  He shot bullet after bullet till there wasn’t any left in the chamber. Every chance he got, he would  shoot again, and again. The teenager was completely filled with rage when he brutally murdered his mom.  

There was buckshot holes everywhere her brother said: 

“He murdered her, he didn’t do it with sorrow or nothing. He did it like he wanted to do it, like he meant to do it and he knew what he was doing.”

The bullets left holes in the windows. Robinson’s five-year-old daughter  Chiko Lewis and her fiance , were also in the home at the time and were forced to jump out of a low window to escape the gunfire.

The little girl later asked relatives: ‘why would someone want to hurt mommy?’

Smith was arrested soon after the shooting. He had reportedly been driving around in his mother’s car.

Roberts, who was holding a framed portrait of the family, added:

‘He (Smith) said his mother won’t let him have friends, he said his mother won’t let him bring his girlfriends over, his mother won’t let him stay out until 11 o’clock at night. He’s 14 years old.’
