With declining sales and steady losses over the years Daimler will shut down the super-luxury Maybach brand to end almost a decade of losses from an auto that sells for more than $350,000 when a revamped version of the flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class comes to market in 2013.
“It would not make sense to develop a successor model,” CEO Dieter Zetsche said in remarks confirmed by Daimler spokesman Marc Binder. “The coming S-Class is in such a way a superior vehicle that it can replace the Maybach.”
Daimler hasn’t made a profit on the Maybach since 2002. Mercedes will double variations of the $95,000 S-Class to six as it seeks to boost annual vehicle sales by at least 10,000 a year to be able to compete with BMW as the world’s top luxury-car maker.
BMW and Volkswagen’s Audi have grown at more than five times the pace of Mercedes over the past decade by adding new offerings faster. The 125-year-old manufacturer, which has also dropped to third in profitability, lost the luxury-car sales lead to BMW in 2005 and slipped behind Audi this year.
U.K. luxury sports-car maker Aston Martin, who was in talks with Mercedes over the years to partner on producing new Maybach’s has declined to comment on the ramifications of Daimler’s comments. But to me it’s obvious that they collaborated on the new S class and jointly made the decision to trash the Maybach.
Hip Hop’s elite has always combined their love for luxury cars into their rap lyrics and Maybach may have sponsored a lot of those lines. Does that mean no more Maybach Music??? We are waiting to see what the boss Rick Ross has to say about this.. Meanwhile let’s check out some of the luxury cars that our favorite rappers own.
…

Rick Ross - Maybach (Rick Ross doesn't even look right in front of his car. Not to mention he took the Maybach sign and made a chain out of it... He may be responsible for sending the brand to the graveyard)
Jermain Dupri - Lamborghini Murcielago, standing at only 4 feet something tall this lil ninja has to go hard.

thank the low budget rappers
A Maybach Is A Pregnant Mercedes S class actually So I am not Surprised
Girl you made the announcement like someone died
Lol
Damm I had mine on layaway.
There are certain Compaines that no longer want certain types of people using their product regardless of how much money one may have (remember the nasty statements from the makers of CRISTAL CHAMPAGNE) I’m just puttin it out there, ya’ll figure it out!!! It’s been done before.
As for the Maybach,
What the makers of cristol say?
Thatz life……
Lol
Wish they would stop calling Louboutins “red bottoms” so hood rat…&stop with the Gucci Jackets…&Louie Vuitton suits…makes the brands look cheap…&I’m not going to start on the correct spelling of “rozay”…tacky bastards… Lmao!
@ LALA, a quote from an article reads: In fact, the attitude of the house of Roederer to the unexpected popularity of Cristal among rappers is considerably more circumspect. Frederic Rouzaud, who took over from his father as managing-director of the winery in January, says that Roederer has observed its association with rap with curiosity and serenity. But he does not seem entirely serene. Asked if an association between Cristal and the bling lifestyle could actually hurt the brand, he replies: “That’s a good question, but what can we do? We can’t forbid people from buying it. I’m sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business.”
@ Lala….See Nicole Ivey’s answer and I applaud her answer! Also the rappers caught some hell from the Community for their constant mentioning of Cristal in their lyrics. They introduced the Black Community to Cristal and Cristal pissed on Us! All of Us have to be Political and make better choices about what we support with our Money. That’s why I don’t watch much Network Television (NBC, CBS, etc). No Black Fok behind the scenes and trust me the salaries are very good!
This isn’t shocking really. When high end brands are marketed by certain people they lose their appeal eventually.
