Katt Williams Tells CNN He Does NOT Apologize For The Anti Mexican Rant

Coming out of retirement doesn’t seem to be transitioning so smoothly for Katt Williams. Last week a video surfaced of the comedian getting into a racial debate with a Mexican heckler at one of his stand up performances.

In the video Williams is seen launching into a tirade against Mexicans living in the United States:

“Do you remember when white people used to say ‘Go back to Africa,’ and we’d have to tell them we don’t want to? So if you love Mexico, (expletive), get the (expletive) over there!”

The transgression occurred on August 20th, in a comedy club in Phoenix, Arizona. Katt Williams publicist was quick to do damage control by issuing a apology on the troubled comedian’s behalf:

“My remarks were not meant to be offensive. I want to apologize if my comedy act was taken out of context. I sincerely appreciate my fans within the Mexican community and would never intentionally go out of my way to offend them.”

But Katt Williams refused to be quiet and stick to the script:

Katt went on CNN to interveiw with TJ  Holmes to rescend the apology stating the apology was not his words, but those of his publicist.  The comedian stated:

“I meant what I said and I said what I meant. I apologize for the fact that the word ‘anti-Mexican’ is being said to a black guy in America.”

TJ. Holmes asked Katt how could someone issue a statement on his behalf without his permission, To which Katt Responded:

“Sir, they put out a DVD called Katt Williams: 9 Lives while I was in jail without my permission.  A lot of stuff has been happening to a lot of black celebrities in the world.  We just deal with it, thank Jesus, and keep on going.”

Katt Williams says he is a comedian and he is not allowed to nor will he apologize for his uncensored thoughts. He used Tracy Morgan as a example of a comedian who was pressured into rescinding his statements:

“As a stand up, the only thing that I sell is uncensored thought.  So I’m not allowed to then come back the next day and apologize.  That’s for the Tracy Morgan’s of the world.  I meant what I said and I said what I meant.” (in reference to Morgan apologizing for anti-gay remarks he made during a stand-up show in Nashville.)

Katt continued on to say that people should watch more of CNN so they can see that their is real news going on in the world and not be worried about what a comedian has to sayHe ended the interview by saying that he does appreciate his Mexican fans and that they are a significant root of his success:

“I sincerely appreciate my fans within the Mexican community and would never intentionally go out of my way to offend them. I couldn’t be anti-Mexican. My Mexican fan base is largely responsible for me even existing,” Williams said. “Between them and the black community, it’s really all I have.”

Watch The Interview:

Notice how Katt pulls his Gucci Hoodie back over his head at the end of the interview and slides his white shades back on. What was that all about?

This incident is the latest in a string of public controversies for the comedian. Just last week video surfaced of  Williams being  kicked out of a Young Jeezy concert for his role in a brawl inside the VIP area.

If you got to get on stage and pull out any race issue shows where your character is, double standard should apply if George Lopez got on stag

Katt Williams is brilliant. None of us are anywhere near perfect, so let’s focus on what he is, an entertainer. I’m now probably more of a Katt Williams fan than I was before. I don’t always agree with every single statement he makes onstage, which often incoporate humor with social commentary, but I generally follow his rationale for the way he runs his “show”, both onstage and off. The harsh critism he has received lately is baffling to me; it just lets me know that a lot of us are still pretty pretentious (sadity) and mainstream in our logic. Let’s just say that Katt Williams is a good, if not great and edgy entertainer, who will defend and speak up for himself, and appears to have a somewhat controversial, high-profile personal life. That’s no reason to try to demonize him when he’s got some valid points. But that’s how the media reports things, so that the general public will automatically bite and feed into narrowminded judgement.

Paco- that doesn't fly because I frequently tell my America hating black friends to go to Africa if they don't like it here so much. People erroneously pull race cards b/c differing skin colors are involved. This has nothing to do with race. This is about nationality. Don't like America, fine. It's as easy for you to leave as it was to get here. Sometimes easier. If George Lopez told a black America- hating heckler to carry his ass back to Africa, I would cheer his ass on too and agree that he shouldn't have to apologize for his personal views.
