Why do I say Walmart is evil? The question is why do consumers abandon the small business they used to frequent in order to shop at Walmart? Simple uniformed consumers. I was one of those consumers.
I was a Walmart lover. I loved the low prices. Slowly, I did start to notice less variety though. Most of the name brands in Walmart were being replaced with Walmart brands. My best friend would always scream at me about how badly Walmart treats their employees and I would always tell her its their problem and that they should get a better job. Recently another friend said something about Walmart and I told him the same thing. Then he further went into detail about what Walmart really does and it prompted me to do some research.
My research says Walmart is a evil place. Walmart is bulldozing the American Economy. Those low prices are not in our best interest.. Sometimes you can go in walmart and not even see any Kraft Shredded cheese. But that white Walmart bag of shredded cheese will be there instead. Walmart bullies the suppliers to sell to them low and you would think that is a good thing, but its not.
I have been hearing for years how Walmart was going to be the main cause of the economy crashing. A very wealthy man once told me that many years ago. Walmart is such a monopoly that it disables almost any other business like it to make a profit. When a Walmart building goes up in a town a whole bunch of other buildings become vacated and torn down.
Walmart provides low wage jobs: Yeah, not our fault those people work there… We can say that. But those Walmart employees are barely making it and still have to get subsidies from the government to take care of their families. Taxpayers pay these subsidies..
It’s sickening and sad. I will never shop at Walmart again. In your free time watch the videos below. Become a informed consumer. Yes, if you had a business you would want to take over like Walmart. But Walmart is taking over by robbing the economy. Money has to be spread out. The low prices at Walmart have a domino affect across the entire economy from top to bottom. No, none of us care if Walmart takes the place of other corporations.. The problem is that people will not be able to start up small business’ in the future..
The worse thing is that when a business flourishes over and makes extreme profits they usually share those profits with their employees. My friend always brags about how much he loves working for APPLE and how great they treat their empoloyees. He even has a Apple Tattoo on his neck because he loves the company so much.
Walmart forces out small business and exploits the poor. Walmart is so evil in its marketing that prices are even higher in poor neighborhoods than they will be in a Walmart in a better neighborhood. Why? Because the poor people in these neighborhoods have no car and very little money. Therefore they are forced to get all of their needs at Walmart. That’s just how much walmart has studied poverty and isolated communities. They study how to keep their employees working hard but poor.

My problem with unions that don't want people to shop at wal mart is why don't they use their pension funds to develop shopping stores to compete with Wal Mart and put people to work.
I quess people aren't suppose to eat just because unions don't like Wal Mart.

……I like their prices on general merchandise ie make-up, soap, shampoo and conditioner etc. If the have a sale on food I buy it, but the majority comes from Krogers and Trader Joe's
Pretty much old news, and ANY mention of the word "union" could get your ass fired in a heartbeat. And thats real. A LOT of faulty policies, and regulations that company…seriously needs to be looked into, indicted, and prosecuted.
Now I see why the City of New York is blocking the building of a Wal-Mart in Brooklyn. I have heard that this is an evil company. I just never knew it was THIS evil.
Everyone wants to pay less but they have no idea what they are trading for these low prices. Wal Mart has always paid minimum wage and offered little to no benefits to most of its employees. They demand long hours and barely any time off. They strategically place their stores to run out any competition. They even stated it in the old video I saw when I worked there. They partner with companies that employ child labor and sweatshops to make most of their clothing. Everybody says but I need to pay low prices until the company that they work for is put out of business by Wal Mart and you are forced to work there
I don't like their meat prices too high but they play with your pocket because Sams club in also owned by Walmart.

I understand that Walmart is terrible to their employees and that Walmart doesn't care about the communities around the store but… its a business… There was at one time one Walmart and it did good because it served a purpose and now Walmarts are all over.. yeah, they suck and its not fair – but… it's a business – Walmart does have some social responsibility but, it's not Walmart's fault that the ma and pop stores couldn't make it, and its not Walmart's fault that there are people that are willing to work part-time, for minimum wage — if their employees were so concerned about making more, why aren't they going to school to better their education while working at Walmart! Working at Walmart shouldn't be in your long-term career plans! I know its terrible and I'm gonna try to not buy stuff there but sometimes it may be unavoidable.
Walgreens the same way ,in Columbus every walgreen built is right across from a CVS , and as far as there workers u can no way compare walmart to apple maybe try a store like big bear who was bought out by giant eagle big bear payed all there employees benefits including retirement ,as far as groceries krogers has a better off brand product than wal mart brand it's all politics

When you have no choice but to take a shitty job at Wal Mart because the majority of small businesses in your area had to shut down, maybe people will understand. Wal Mart has plans that don't care about anyone they "serve". Ethics is taught in business schools and practiced by companies but not Wal Mart. I understand all of this, and its all well and good, however,, I dont know if I would say the people who shop there are "POOR" because,, sometimes you live in an area where you REALLY dont have a choice BUT to go to Wal-Mart. Sometimes, they ARE the only type of retailer in your area. When you live in the ASS SPHINCTER*spell-chek that 1* of Cape May County,NJ, and the nearest shopping district is an hour drive, where else are you gonna go?? It is one of the most expensive places to live, and over 60% of people who live here either want to or NEED TO move cause they just can't afford to live here. Wal-Mart and WalGreens is about all we have here, next to a regular grocery store that sells only food. Wal-Mart MAY very well BE un-ethical,evil,awful people,,BUTT STUPID they are NOT!! This article has so many inaccuracies its not funny. Has anyone even studied the Walmart supply chain and how they are able to offer such low prices? They have one of the best supply chains and practice JIT inventory. They squeeze evey penny from their suppliers in negiotations. They are able to do this because of their size. Also last time I checked Walmart pays above min wage no one is forcing the employees to work there just like no one is forcing anyone to work at McDonalds. Personally I believe certain jobs are not meant to be a career and are probably best for teenagers and seniors not a single parent trying to raise three kids on a Walmart salary.
When I go to Walmart in the Chicago suburbs where I use to live I could find every brand available and the store was very clean, now that I have moved back to the city (Chicago) when I very seldomly go to the 3 Walmarts (Chicago dosen't like Walmart) they are packed and I can't find all the brands possibly because they don't sell? Also the prices are higher in the city to account for shrinkage. The level of thief is higher in certain areas and retailers change their prices to reflect that, Walgreens, Albertson, etc. It has nothing to do with people not having a car and not be ing able to go elsewhere.
Here we go with the " get a better education" BULLSHIT… LMAO Alot of the people that were employed in my store were making ends meet to put themselves THROUGH school, and keep a roof over their head amid the mortgage crisis. Wtf do most people do while in school? Hmmmm I dont know, work bullshit jobs until they graduate, and now a days graduate with NO real hope of landing a good Job in this economy. They employ a lot of people with criminal records, and African Americans as well. I Bring this up, because the first one telling these people to stop being lazy, and stop waiting on monthly benefits, go get get a job are the SAME ones judging people that work there, or have worked there. Please know that every Wal Mart does not pay over minimum wage. Most in MD don't. People say what they want but what Wa; Mart shows to the public who buys from them and what they show to upper management and the people who work there are two different things. Sometimes I write things and people feel like they are responding intelligently but they are not. One must always take in all the facts and let things sink in. I'm highly intelligent and any other highly intelligent individual can step back and see where this is going. You can not have one company with ALL the money and no one else not have any money. MONEY must be spread and spent. That is why the government sent out STIMULUS checks to everyone. To make people spend to help the economy.

While it would be nice if Walmart paid stock boys and cashiers $20k+ a year, the truth is that those jobs don't require any special degrees or training. Does Walmart treat it's employees worse than other retail stores like Kmart/Sears, Target, or Costco? Are employees with these other stores or even with the mom and pop stores getting benefits, vacation days and 401k plans? What employer ever wants their workers to unionize. Walmart easy of the largest employers in the world, but I don't see them doing much different from other companies. Walmart is just the easiest target.
Walmart has all the money LMAO! Walmart is losing business to Target in certain areas hence their campaign on matching prices. The government gave out Stimulus checks due to the housing market crash, loss of jobs etc not because of Walmart! My career is in Operations so I know more about certain companies than the average person but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
And another thing there is something called Labor Laws in America. Walmart is breaking those laws.

Nicole you are speaking of one particular area. Walmart is worldwide. Im not saying unskilled people should be paid lots of money. But if they work over time they should be paid for it. This really isn't about the low wages, it's about their unfair, unlawful practices and the overall long term effect on the economy.. It's going to trickle down to those of us who feel like we are unaffected…
Kissy, I understand your concern but I question what your suggesting people do. Should I boycott Walmart because they are big and are charging me less because they might raise prices in the future or pay more now for the same merchandise(even though I can't afford it)? What laws are they breaking? Which stores should I shop in instead of Walmart? Are you sure those stores don't do the same things to their workers?
bahahhahah I just walk out on that shitty place and swear by my life i wouldn't shop there. Spending a couple of dollars more on target and local shops are better (qality wise as well) i can't even describe to you what how they treat the items that ppl sale so I would just not bother. They are soooo horrible to their workers its not even funny. the worst they don't have a worker's union so our opinions don't matter and they can pay us anything (well of course min wage is included) but with the work they demand it should be equal pay for equal work. As a cashier i had had 3 other job positions and they gave you a time limit to do all that! its not fair how they treat ppl. It might sound like "oh she is crying over a job suck it up" but i have had other jobs and it never came close. I even watched other documentary of Walmart in class and every worker are saying exactly what i am saying. Walmart is a slave job. @ Kissy LOL yes I am aware that Walmart is a global company but they are not successful in every country they enter. They failed in Germany and also had failures in Japan and Mexico. Walmart is facing competition globally from Target (who is also global) Aldi and 7eleven.
OMG… I spent so much time reading this thread that I missed my opportunity to go to Target because they close at 10 and now I feel bad because I have to go to Walmart because they stay open 24 hours. Why doesn't Target do that?
You cannot justify Walmarts practices… Laws are definitely being broken when in one year Walmart gets sued 4,585 times.. Their Disrimmination case is so big they cant settle because they will go bankrupt. They buy cheap and thats why they have so many recalls.. They fill your fridges with genetical modified, hormone, and cloned treated meats and produces, contributing to obesity and disease. Young, old, educated, dumb as a box of rocks, american people have civil rights and should not be treating like slaves.. One year they contribute only 2% of their capital to charity and opposed to bill gates who contributed 48% of his capita.. They cant get a union together.. The meat market tried and Walmart's union busters closed down the meat market department. I could go on on .. but the point is to check out how businesses are extorting people using demographics

Lita to touch on the rest part. my body has went a complete transformation. i get a 5-7 hour sleep after my 10-7am (sometimes don't get out at 7am). my whole day is gone after that then come back to walmart the same night. you would think i am making bank working long hours like my mom does for her RN job. but nope! they had the nerves to tell us employees that we won't get a bonus because we didn't work too hard on top of that when ppl steal it gets out of our bonus. They got rid of the secuirty (all across walmart will be doing that) overnight. they are just throwing away our bonuses.

You are right. Walmart is a business and it is in business to make money. They have lower prices because it gives people a reason to shop there. People like using the argument of how Walmart is evil because it is the biggest employer in the country and one of the most profitable corporations in the world. Walmart just runs their business better than most. The more people bash Walmart, the more that Walmart has a need to promote itself. Corporations and governments are both large organizations of power, money, people and other resources that serve themselves and those who continue to sustains their existence. I have been saying that for years! People think it is good for their communities but really if kills downtown and puts small businesses out of work because they cant compete with Walmart cheap prices. I havent shopped there in years, in fact my hometown will not allow any in town.
I've actually had a chance to see the full movie a couple of years ago. And i do what I possibly can to not shop there.
Yea K, I work there for five years and saw how they handled the mom&pop stores. Alot of them came to work for Walmart. Walmart is just a major Beast.
why is it that if you walk into Walmart with a list of items and a budget …you will almost ALWAYS come out spending more than you budgeted and with items that aren't on your list… I went in there 2 weeks ago for towels, literally walked in the door, forgot what I came for, walked around until I tried to remember, all the while walking past the towels about 4 times, and left spending $45.00 with not 1 towel. Got home and was pissed! ha hahaha… I swear they must put a "blissful scent" in the air to make you feel a sense of happiness when you walk in the door…not to mention how they strategically put those ROLLBACKS at the ends of the aisles, making you feel like you just GOT TO HAVE IT for that extra .50 cents off.. yeah they got me… that's why I will not go back. McDonald's is the same way. Why is that any McDonalds you see will always have a drive-thru line wrapped around the building?- that food is GROSS and what it does to your digestive system is even worse….but why do people sit 10-15mins in their cars for it? – Because McD's puts an addictive agent in their food to make people feel like they NEED to go back – but that's a different story… I need Kissy to invetigate that one…

Galen it's not a catch 22. Walmart purposely set up shop in isolated areas where there is no shopping for great miles. Those people have no choice but to shop at Walmart. That is the problem with America is that when people begin to lose the freedom of choice it all goes downhill.. That's what happens in these rural places…

Walmart is not evil but you are free to shop wherever you want, especially if walmart doesn't have the brands you want to purchase. You seem not to grasp that the lower wages help make product prices lower which is money saved to their customers which in turn can be saved, invested or spent elsewhere. Walmart does not bully suppliers any more than any other business what it has is massive purchasing power due to it's size. The same way you save at Costco or SAMs club by buying in bulk so do businesses.
@Festus you gotta remember, Corporations are people, so they already have politicians in their pockets….
I really did not like what I saw or read. I'm not a big Wal-Mart shopper. I sometimes get certain grocery items and dog food from there. This is disheartening. Not going back until some changes are made.

no…i'll just shop at the over priced "gourmet" grocer in the exclusive neighborhood where one steak is 60.00…in this economy, Walmart is a good choice for many items. I think people find it fashionable to be "against" just about anything. When our econy picks up (or we get a better administration) I'll seek other shopping options. lol!

Don't really shop at Walmart anymore cuz I've noticed it too and also because the nearest one to my house is far and don't feel like driving to Ghetto Walmart on Oakland Park and 441 in Ft Lauderdale. I like to shop and I go to places like HomeGoods, Ikea, Marshall, Publix, Winn-Dixie, Penn Dutch, etc. fa ALLLLLLLL my shopping needs sooooooo Walmart see ya cuz ya won't be seeing Mag maybe fa back-to-school supplies HA!

I live in a low income neighborhood and wal mart is a 15 minute walk away. Recently, a woman and her family [husband and 2 children] went to wal mart. The wife and one kid stayed in the car while the husband and other kid shopped. A man came up to her window and asked her for some change and she opened her door to hand him some. He jumped in and raped her in front of her child. What is sad is that right across the street from walmart is the police station. The next city over, Walmart is listed as one of the [top 10] dangerous Walmart's in America. Even IF walmart didn't have shady practices I still wouldn't shop there just because I value my life. Thank baby Jesus there is a Target also in the vicinity or I wouldn't have anywhere to shop. [The target is cleaner. customer service is good. and i don't wait 30 min in line for 1 item]

Not many people can commit to not shopping at WM with this economy in the situation that it's in. And to top it off the prices on food, cleaning supplies, etc are rising constantly. I shop at 3/4 different stores looking for the best deals and I use lots of coupons. For the most part I find the best deals at WM and they price match all other stores. At the very least WM has to pay minimum wage and most supermarket or big box stores only pay minimum wage; people know that when they take the job. Also, these stores always have crappy insurance plans that are not affordable; people also know that when they take the job. Yes, WM could do better but as people are willing to work for those peanuts then WM will continue to pay them peanuts. The boycott needs to start there first…JMHO.
That is the point Tamika. Walmart is damaging the economy. most workers can't afford to boycott because jobs are scarce in their area. Walmart shuts down the competition because of their low prices, so there is no option but to work and shop there. If there is no other store but Walmart in your town chances are you're gonna take the $7 hr job because it's more than $0 an hour.

Well that point goes for people who shop there as well, if people make a limited amount of money they need to shop at the least expensive place. I'm not spending $4 and $5 on cereal at the supermarket when I can get it for $2.50 at Walmart when I have 7 people to feed and a limited food budget. This is why I've now gotten into couponing, so that I can lessen my food and HBA budget. This lets me follow the best deals and does get me out of WM sometimes but usually the best deals can be found there. The same problem you're talking about with WM can be said about Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Sams Club, Costco, etc. They are all stores that knocked the mom and pop businesses out the box because they couldn't compete. WM may not pay well but believe me when I say those mom and pop stores were not hiring on the level of the big box stores either and most of the jobs went to family and friends.

I live in a low income neighborhood and wal mart is a 15 minute walk away. Recently, a woman and her family [husband and 2 children] went to wal mart. The wife and one kid stayed in the car while the husband and other kid shopped. A man came up to her window and asked her for some change and she opened her door to hand him some. He jumped in and raped her in front of her child. What is sad is that right across the street from walmart is the police station. The next city over, Walmart is listed as one of the [top 10] dangerous Walmart’s in America. Even IF walmart didn’t have shady practices I still wouldn’t shop there just because I value my life. Thank baby Jesus there is a Target also in the vicinity or I wouldn’t have anywhere to shop. [The target is cleaner. customer service is good. and i don't wait 30 min in line for 1 item]

Not that I agree with their practices but there is a saying…”Somebody has to clean the fishes.” In order for some of us to “enjoy” life some of us have to “suffer”. There will always be collateral damage.

Not many people can commit to not shopping at WM with this economy in the situation that it’s in. And to top it off the prices on food, cleaning supplies, etc are rising constantly. I shop at 3/4 different stores looking for the best deals and I use lots of coupons. For the most part I find the best deals at WM and they price match all other stores. At the very least WM has to pay minimum wage and most supermarket or big box stores only pay minimum wage; people know that when they take the job. Also, these stores always have crappy insurance plans that are not affordable; people also know that when they take the job. Yes, WM could do better but as people are willing to work for those peanuts then WM will continue to pay them peanuts. The boycott needs to start there first…JMHO.
If every Walmart hired just 2 more checkout people, they'd save the job market and I hate going to walmart.. I always see someone I know.
