Yesterday, real Basketball wife La La and her hubby Carmelo Anthony celebrated their one year anniversary as husband and wife. The couple sat down with the NY Times and discussed their relationship and business partnership as well as which couples they draw inspiration from.
Lala on Will and Jada I love Will Smith and Jada Pinkett!
You see the love, and you can see the support, and they partner on things and produce together. But she has a life, and he has a life. Carmelo on couples that inspire them Will and Jada have a tremendous relationships, Jay-Z and Beyonce have a tremendous relationship, Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, they’re a couple we see that inspires us.
But we want to be ourselves. We want people to say, ‘We want our relationship to be like Melo and LaLa.’
Lala On Wanting To Be More Than A ‘Basketball Wife’:
A lot of times with basketball players, their wives, and I’m not criticizing, but their life is just about the man, what time is he getting home, why hasn’t he called me? But I’m so much more than” that. I’m a mom, I’m an actress, I’m a producer. Like, out of all that, I don’t want to just be called a basketball wife. What I see in Will Smith and Jada Pinkett, is having your own, and I tell everyone that.”
Carmelo on creating a business partnership:
I saw her wanting to go into movies and producing films and documentaries and reality shows, So I said instead of letting somebody else come on board and produce all this stuff, we have the capabilities and the relationships, we can create our own production company and bring everything through that.
Yeah, yeah. Sounds good. I hope it works. It’s always good to be inspired and admire others. But you never know what’s going on behind closed doors…

I really wish people did not use either of them as the template for a good relationship. nothing against them but they do not have real lives. And we only see their extravagant happiness in the public. It creates a skewed image of how people view real relationships.
That being said….I just like jay and bey better
Good day Ms kissy i think Will & Jada smith hands dowb because they have that bond of family they try to make it work everyone participates. Beyonce & Jay-Z hmm my third ‘I’ tells me this won’t be Beyonce only marriage. She has that Marilyn Munroe quality hmmm.

Well without Will Jada would’ve faded away real talk. She wasnt getting real recognition till she married Will, & from what I heard they are swingers(aledgedly). As long as u have total communication with ur mate the relationship & love will grow (if its Gods will). Good luck to La La & Carmelo and all married couples. Its is easy to walk away the test is staying. =-)

Will & Jada are a great inspiration 4 marriage & family from what we can see! the other 2 dont really care 2 acknowledge they are married so how can they inspire anyone on the marriage note! Really…LOL

None, but God is my inspiration for a perfect marriage.
I’m with Jackson on this. These people don’t even bother with the real meaning of happiness with all the money they make. A real relationship focus on building a foundation together not making money.
